Originally a settlement on the right bank of the Rhine, Dusseldorf now spans the river. The older, left side, the Altstadt, is considered the old town. Parks and winding esplanades line the riverbanks on both the left and right.

The Altstadt is the perfect place to begin your tour of Dusseldorf. Known as the “longest bar in the world”, Alstadt houses over 200 bars and restaurants. Stop in and sample an ‘Altier’; a dark mellow brew favored by the locals.

The center of Alstadt is the Burgplatz Square. Here you will find the historic Schlossturm Tower. There are many cultural attractions located here such as the Hetjens Museum, the Heinrich Heine Institute, the Film Museum, and the Palais Wittentein, the Marketplatz,(marketplace), and the Rathaus, a Gothic town hall.

You will also want to take a tour through the new town along the right bank of the Rhine. You will be amazed by the telecommunications tower, the Rheinturm which, at 234m, is Dusseldorf’s tallest building. You can watch the sun set over the city from the tower’s revolving restaurant, Top 180, located at a height of 180 meters.

The right bank is also home to the Konigsallee. This central boulevard is the premier shopping area of Dusseldorf. Dusseldorf is now considered one of Europe’s fashion capitols and the Konigsallee is the perfect place to find luxurious items. Dusseldorf’s leading concert hall, Tonhalle is also located on the “Ko”.

A stroll down the “Ko” will lead you to the Trident Fountain. Located in Hofgarten Park, the Trident fountain is a Dusseldorf landmark. The park is a lush city escape of small paths surrounded by trees, gardens, statues, and fountains.

Your trip will begin and end at the Dusseldorf International Airport. Located five miles from Dusseldorf, DIA offers travelers all the modern amenities.
